Zbigniew Kozikowski
Works in oil, acrylic and mixed media
Born and educated in Poland, Zbigniew Kozikowski was inspired by the cubist tradition of Picasso and Braque. His paintings reflect a constant pushing of the usual boundaries in terms of materials, methods, color and subject. He uses acrylic,
oil, watercolor and texturizing elements in his abstract forms that always play with the beauty and nature of light.
Pasodoble
Zbigniew (pronounced Z-big-nee-f) works consciously with light. “In light,” he says, “We find the deepest meaning of existence.” He paints to change light into spots of color “so harmonized that they become the materialization of light and color.”
This fascination is apparent in his work which, driven by his masterful use of colo
r, comes alive for the viewer.
Something Special
18" x 24"
His most recent series veering towards abstract expressionism conveys a freedom from constraint, and a transitioning from representational confines. He uses deep tangerine, cool blues, rich reds and magentas which, upon close examination, prove to be layers of unexpected colors. With this new direction, while continuing with his noted “urbanscapes”, the artist presents stylized scenes that prove to be anything but simple.

Warm Escape
Zbigniew received a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, Poland. After graduating, he traveled extensively throughout Europe, drinking in the colors of the landscape and the vibrant bustle of urban scenes. Now living in Sacramento with his wife Barbara, he continues to play with the magic of light on canvas.
